The valves enable flow direction control of fluid in a hydraulic circuit and both control of the direction of movement or (shutting off) stopping of their appliances. In addition to solenoid operated valves, valves are also operated mechanically by lever or cam, hydraulically or pneumatically. Pilot operated directional control valves are designed to achieve a high flow rate of up to 600 l / min. Poppet type valves are known for their extremely low internal volume loss.

5/2 solenoid valves and 5/3 solenoid valves are most often used as directional control valves for double-acting pneumatic actuators. The single-coil type of 5/2 valve usually has a spring or pilot air return so that when de-energised, the valve returns to it's starting function.
The double solenoid valve is reversed when voltage is applied to a solenoid coil and remains in this switching position after the signal is removed until an opposed signal is applied. The presence of switching signals is shown by the LEDs in the terminal housings. The valve is equipped with a manual override.
